Solid cherry, darkened with lye and finished with polyurethane.
The goals of this design were:
- Allow moving the TV and the speakers together
- Keep the floorstanding speakers as close to the floor as possible
- Hide clutter
- Don't make the TV too high
- Minimize width and depth with the existing speakers and a 55" TV
The wheels were the low profile 8OTWW1400 from Mapp Caster. They work well and were some of the only low profile casters I could find. However, the whole thing has a lot of inertia and takes some core strength to get moving before the wheels swivel in the right direction.
Mounting the hinges with full overlay was the most difficult part of the project, as the doors were 3/4" thick, thicker than typical 3/4" plywood. I eventually figured out that the less common BLUMOTION "Plus" aka 110+ (not regular 110) provided more wiggle room for full overlay with these thick doors.
